Farm Plastics Recycling

Over the past decade farmers have recycled over 80,000 tonnes of plastic.  In 2008 19,000 tonnes of plastic was recycled.  This plastic, which was originally used to cover silage bales. is recycled into a range of products including refuse sacks and garden furniture.

The majority of farm plastic in Ireland is collected and recycled by the Irish Farm Films Producers' Group (IFFPG).  IFFPG is an Irish owned "not for profit" company established to implement a scheme for collection of farm plastic nationwide.  IFA is represented on the board of IFFPG by Offlay IFA County Chairman Aidan Larkin and Environment Executive Thomas Ryan.

Bring Centres

IFFPG each year co-ordinate over 200 bring centres nationwide, which allows farmers to re-cycle plastic at a location near the farm.  The full list of bring centres are available below.

2009 Bring Centre Calendar and Locations.

Farmers can reduce their collection costs by ensuring that they provide a 6 digit label code to IFFPG prior to, or at collection.  For more information visit the IFFPG website, click here.
