Introduction

The IFA National Farm Family & Social Committee was established to recognise the role of women in farming to deal with family and women's issues and to increase the involvement of farm women in the IFA.

The Committee strives to assist IFA members all over the country, representing farm families on issues such as equality and childcare.

In March 09, IFA secured a commitment from Mary Harney to consider aspects of the Nursing Home Support Scheme Bill, click here to read more.

Farm Safety Action Plan

The farming sector in Ireland has a poor accident record which accounts for about 30% of workplace deaths even though just 6 % of the national workforce is employed in the sector.  Additionally, around 1800 accidents causing injury take place each year (Teagasc, National Farm Survey).  Click here to read more.

Farm Assist
Spouse Entitlements

Following negotiations on Spouses' Partnerships between the IFA, the Department of Social & Family Affairs and Revenue, women working on farms in partnership with their spouses can qualify for a non means-tested pension in their own right.

Spousees who were effectively farming in a partnership in the past but did not claim to be in a partnership when making their tax and PRSI returns will be eligible to claim partnership status retrospectively.  Each case will be investigated by the Department under the spouses' partnership criteria.

Ensure that you have prepared adequate supporting material for the relevant years if you wish to claim partnership status retrospectively.
