The Irish Farmers’ Association has today (Wednesday 3rd November) announced the agreement of a comprehensive package of measures with Bord Gáis Éireann for farmers in south Kilkenny and west Wexford affected by the proposed gas pipeline from Bánlusk in County Kilkenny to the Great Island Power Station in County Wexford.
IFA South Leinster Vice-President Mr. Jer Bergin has described the package as “robust and complete.” He said, “IFA has secured a range of measures regarding the wayleave, re-instatement of lands, the provision of an Agriculture Liaison Officer and the notification of entry onto lands.”
IFA National Environment Chairman, Mr. Pat Farrell said, “The measures agreed are essential to safeguard farmers interests and to ensure that farmers are treated with respect.”
Kilkenny IFA County Chairperson, Mrs. Joan Fitzpatrick acknowledged the immense role of the local landowners in the negotiations and said that the agreement is only as good as those who implement it. She called on Bord Gáis Éireann to accept their responsibility and to adhere to the Code of Practice and respect landowners’ property.
