IFA President John Bryan said he would be using next week’s Annual General Meeting to remind the Government there can be no further cuts to farm schemes, which have already been savaged over successive budgets.

BRYAN CALLS FOR A MEANINGFUL AEOS SCHEME TO BE PUT IN PLACE WITHOUT DELAY
IFA President John Bryan said a meaningful AEOS scheme must be shortly put in place for farmers who are committed to implementing agri-environment measures on their farms and, in particular, those who have finished their REPS 3 contracts during 2011.

CRITERIA FOR DISADVANTAGED AREA PAYMENTS MUST BE FLEXIBLE - IFA
IFA President John Bryan said the unacceptable cuts in the allocation for the Disadvantaged Areas Scheme must not impact on farmers who are struggling to derive an income in these areas. “The cut will affect farm incomes and it is up to Minister Coveney to ensure that active farmers are fully protected in the changes to the eligibility criteria for payment.”

IFA Rural Development Chairman Tom Turley has criticised the decision of the Minister for Agriculture, Simon Coveney, to cut vital income support schemes to around 50,000 farmers.
