CODE OF PRACTICE MUST ENSURE FARMERS AND CONSUMERS GET FAIR VALUE

IFA PRESIDENT SAYS EUROSTAT REPORT CONFIRMS FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN IS BROKEN
Commenting on the Eurostat report comparing food price levels in the European Union, IFA President John Bryan said the findings confirm that the food supply chain in Ireland is broken. He said, “for example, in the UK, food prices are below the EU average, yet UK farmers are getting a higher price than farmers here. It is clear there is an urgent need to restore equity to the food supply chain with average farm incomes a deplorable €12,000 and the retail multinationals declaring huge profits.”

Chairman
National Liquid Milk Committee

Padraig Mulligan is a dairy farmer contracted to supply liquid milk to Connacht Gold Co-Op. He farms with his wife Mary and his son Padraig Óg in Templeboy, Co Sligo.  Padraig's top priority is to secure a fairer share out of retail returns so that farmers are equitably remunerated for their labour and their management input as well as their costs of production.

Padraig also wants to see a less fragmented and more co-ordinated and efficient liquid milk processing  industry, better able to compete against imported milk while returning a fair and viable price to producers.  He has a strong track record of representing liquid milk producers on the National Liquid Milk Committee and on the National Milk Agency and at local level on the Connacht Gold Liquid Milk Producers' negotiation team for a number of years, and is clearly committed to helping secure his fellow-farmers' livelihoods.
