MINISTER MUST RECONSIDER FORESTRY BILL
The Chairman of the IFA Farm Forestry Committee Michael Fleming said, “IFA and other industry stakeholders have been closely watching the progress of the Forestry Bill at Committee stage. The Bill will be entering Report Stage in the coming weeks and there are still a number of outstanding issues remaining which must be addressed if the industry is to grow and prosper in the years ahead”.

FORESTRY EXPANSION NEEDS PROPER FRAMEWORK FOR LANDOWNERS
Addressing the Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture this afternoon (Tues), IFA Forestry Chairman Michael Fleming said he was concerned that the Forestry Bill creates a restrictive legislative framework that would be extremely detrimental to the expansion of the sector unless amendments are made.

All private forest owners are invited to the IFA Farm Forestry conference, The Business of Forestry will take place tomorrow Tuesday, 26th November in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Athlone. The conference aims to provide expert support and guidance to private forest owners to improve the management of their forests to maximise the economic return from thinning operations. As a forest owners it is important you have some basic knowledge of the timber sales process and markets even if you are employing a forester to manage the operation.

IFA CALLS ON MINISTER HAYES TO INTERVENE TO CONTAIN THE SPREAD OF ASH DIEBACK
IFA Farm Forestry Chairman Michael Fleming said he has serious concerns about the lack of progress by the Forest Service to contain the spread of the Ash Dieback disease. “It is unacceptable that infected plantations and associated plantations that were confirmed earlier in the year have yet to be removed. The lack of progress directly contravenes the Forest Service control strategy to promptly contain and manage infected plantations to halt the spread of the disease to healthy ash trees.
