Commenting on the Eurostat report comparing food price levels in the European Union, IFA President John Bryan said the findings confirm that the food supply chain in Ireland is broken. He said, “for example, in the UK, food prices are below the EU average, yet UK farmers are getting a higher price than farmers here. It is clear there is an urgent need to restore equity to the food supply chain with average farm incomes a deplorable €12,000 and the retail multinationals declaring huge profits.” |

IFA President John Bryan has called for a ban on planning permissions exclusively for food retail space as part of the review by local authorities, which is examining the need for land that has been zoned in recent years. He said the local authorities should conduct a study that would ‘test the need’ for food retail space. |
