AMENDMENTS TO NITRATES RULES PROVIDE NECESSARY SUPPORT FOR FARMERS IN FODDER DIFFICULTY – IFA
IFA Environment & Rural Affairs Chairman Harold Kingston has described the decision by the Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney and Environment Minister Phil Hogan to relax measures in the nitrates regulations as an important support to farmers who are trying to avoid a further fodder shortage again this coming autumn and winter.

€10.4M ROAD REPAIR FUND WILL ALLOW NECESSARY WORKS BEGIN
IFA Deputy President & Countryside Chairman, Eddie Downey, said the decision by the Department of Transport to provide an initial fund of €10.4 million for the repair and maintenance of regional and local roads is an important measure to allow local authorities to begin essential repair and maintenance of rural roads.

INDUSTRY CALL FOR MORE GOVT ACTION TO HELP FARMERS
Following today’s meeting in Portlaoise of representatives from across the industry, IFA President John Bryan said the unanimous view was that a major national effort with meaningful Government intervention will be required to secure enough winter fodder and recover the losses incurred following the worst period of farming weather in living memory.
