Cork 2.0 Rural Development Conference considers challenges facing farming and rural areas 05-06 September


 

Approximately 300 delegates met in Cork for the 2-day European Conference on Rural Development to discuss the challenges facing farming and rural areas, and the potential policy responses. Coming exactly 20 years after the first Cork Conference on Rural Development, which culminated in the ground-breaking Cork Declaration on Rural Development, the Cork 2.0 conference is designed to bring stakeholders together in a series of workshops, with a view to drafting a new Cork Declaration, reflecting the new challenges facing the sector in the 21st century. EU Commissioner Phil Hogan will open and close the conference, with other speakers in the programme pdf - 446 KB [446 KB] including European Parliament Agriculture Committee Chair Czesław Siekierski, the current AgriFish Council President Slovak Minister Gabrielea Matečná, and former EU Commissioners Janesz Potočnik and Franz Fischler (who hosted the 1996 conference).
