Sheep

IFA National Sheep Chairman John Lynskey has said the lamb trade is buoyant this week with factories looking for lambs and expecting a major increase in demand as the week progresses, heading into a big kill next week for the Muslim festival of Eid.

John Lynskey said factories are paying €4.80 to €4.90/kg for lambs up to carcase weights of 22 and 22.5kgs.

He said the live trade is also buoyant with €2.20 to €2.30/k liveweight being paid, up to weights of 50kgs.

John Lynskey said the ewe trade is also strong with €2.70/kg being paid.
