Liam is an arable crop producer, farming approximately 70ha. His main crops mix is winter wheat, winter oats, black oats, winter and spring barley, peas and hay. He dries and stores his own crops and he also runs a small trading company.

He is a former Vice Chairman of the IFA National Grain Committee, Kildare County Vice Chairman, and former National Chairman in Macra na Feirme. He is currently Chairman of the Kildare Agricultural Show.

Fintan Conway is an Arable & Inputs Director at Irish Farmers Association. He is responsible for negotiating with agri-industry on behalf of Irish farmers with the Irish grain industry, policy formation relating to the Irish arable sector, liaising with the Irish Department of Agriculture, COPA and the EU Commission with a view to national and EU policy development and liaising with the agri-inputs supply industry and manufacturers.

Prior to this he has worked with Unichem where he was responsible for technical sales of agricultural and horticultural chemicals, veterinary supplies to retail outlets in Ireland. He initiated his career with Drummonds (Greencore Group) as Branch Manager for Mullingar, Technical Sales Manager for Trim and Mullingar involved in day-to-day management and profitability of Mullingar branch and purchase of feed and malting grains, the drying, storage and sale of same. He is also a member of the following EU Advisory Committees – Standing group “Cereals” of the Advisory Committee on “Arable Crops”, The Advisory Committees on “Non-food and Textile Crops” and “Promotion”, Standing group “Feedingstuffs”.

About the Grain Committee

  • The National Grain Committee represents Ireland’s 13,000 cereal growers.
  • Its members are elected by IFA’s 25 county executives
  • The most important issues include feed grains, peas, beans and oilseed prices and malting barley premium.
  • The Committee was instrumental in developing price risk management tools for malting barley growers to minimise grain price volatility.
