Agenda highlights

Agriculture market situation

Ministers will discuss the current difficulties faced in several agricultural sectors, including the pig meat, dairy and fruit and vegetables sectors. The debate will also help to assess the adequacy and effectiveness of the market support measures currently in place, and whether additional measures could be envisaged.

Forestry

The Council will be also called upon to adopt conclusions on the EU support to timber-producing countries under the FLEGT (Forest Law Enforcement Governance and Trade) action plan. The conclusions will be a policy response to recommendations issued by the European Court of Auditors on the subject in a special report.

Food labelling

A number of delegations are expected to draw attention on the impact of the use of the voluntary “traffic light” system for food labelling, which is used in some countries to classify foods as more or less healthy by assigning a color code.

Fisheries agreements with third countries

The Council is due to adopt conclusions on fisheries partnership agreements with third countries, as a policy response to recommendations issued by the European Court of Auditors on the subject in a special report.
