AGRICULTURE COUNCIL 11 MAYBrussels Daily
The next Agriculture and Fisheries Council will take place on Monday 11 May in the Justus-Lipsius building, Brussels starting at 10 a.m.
The Council will deal with agricultural matters only.
The Council will try to reach agreement on a general approach on a proposal on organic farming (6975/1/15 REV 1). The proposal aims to review the existing legislation on organic production and labelling of organic products with the objective of removing obstacles to the development of organic production in the EU, guaranteeing fair competition for farmers and operators and improving consumer confidence in organic products.
A general approach constitutes a political agreement in the Council on proposals for a regulation. It would make it possible for negotiations to be launched between the European Parliament and the Council with a view to a political agreement between the institutions.
In addition, ministers will try to adopt conclusions on the simplification of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). As this issue has become one of the priorities of both the Council and the Commission, the Presidency has consulted ministers over recent months and summarised their views on priority areas for simplification based on their experience of implementation of the reformed CAP.
