The Future of Food and Farming
Ministers will have an exchange of views on the Commission communication on “The Future of Food and Farming”, focusing on:
- direct support
- environmental aspects
- rural development
EU bioeconomy strategy
The Council will then have a debate on the role of agriculture in the revision of the EU bioeconomy strategy, preparing for:
- a resource-efficient and sustainable economy
- a more innovative and low-emissions economy
Agriculture and forestry are important players in the bioeconomy in the context of the ambitious EU 2030 climate and energy targets. Ministers will discuss how to better integrate this into the agricultural sector.
EU protein plan
Ministers will be informed by the Commission on the EU protein plan. This report which is due to be published by the end of 2018 refers to the EU protein deficit and the economic profitability of these crops.
