Agri-food imports: main increases in imports from Argentina
Agri-food imports from third countries in the period March 2015 to February 2016 came into the EU at a value of EUR 114 billion, i.e. an increase by 8.4% compared to the same period one year ago. The export surplus for the 12-months period stands at about EUR 16 billion.
Imports from the USA showed the highest increase in values (EUR +1.6 billion; +15%) in the 12-months period until February 2016. Import values for agri-food products from
Argentina also went up by EUR 790 million (+15%) over the last 12 months of which EUR 212 million in February 2016 only. Remarkable increases were recorded also for agri-food
imports from Turkey (EUR +709 million; +17%), China (EUR +480 million; +10%) and Ukraine (EUR +350 million; +9%).
Also some Latin American countries improved in agrifood exports to the EU, such as Colombia, Peru and Chile. On the other hand, imports from Brazil decreased by EUR 327 million (-2.4%) and imports from other big suppliers, Canada and Indonesia went down as well compared to the previous 12 months period.
