Commission welcomes Chinese announcement on lifting import ban on French beef

China has announced its intention to lift its embargo on imports of French beef for animals under 30 months of age. This success is the result of an effort of long-term European trade diplomacy. The EU has strict control and surveillance measures in place to ensure the safety of European beef, and EU Member States comply with all relevant international standards. The World Trade Organization demands that all bans and restrictions in place for EU beef products throughout the world be lifted as soon as possible. However, some Member States still face a number of prohibitions and restrictions related to the suspected BSE risk in many countries, such as Australia, China, South Korea and Taiwan. The Commission continues to work for the full reopening of all these markets.  More information here and here
