Comitology: Commission to unveil proposals for more transparency and accountability in procedures for implementing EU law
The College of Commissioners will met today in Strasbourg to discuss the Comitology Regulation, and measures for increasing transparency and accountability in the procedures for implementing EU legislation. The College already held an Orientation Debate on 1 February about how best to deliver on President Juncker’s pledge in his State of the Union Speech in September 2016. This proposal was announced as one of the key new initiatives in the 2017 Commission Work Programme. It will now be transmitted to the European Parliament and the Council.

Eurostat: Flash estimate for the fourth quarter of 2016- GDP up by 0.4% in the euro area and by 0.5% in the EU28- +1.7% and +1.8% respectively compared with the fourth quarter of 2015
Seasonally adjusted GDP rose by 0.4% in the euro area (EA19) and by 0.5% in the EU28 during the fourth quarter of 2016, compared with the previous quarter, according to a flash estimate published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In the third quarter of 2016, GDP also grew by 0.4% and 0.5% respectively. Full text available here.
