Promotion of European agri-food products: the call for proposals launched today

The European Commission today launches the call for proposals for campaigns to promote the EU’s agri-food products, both at home and abroad, with a budget of more than 191.6 million euros, an increase of 12.5 million euros compared to 2018. This is 89 million euros that will be allocated to campaigns in high-growth countries such as Canada, China, Colombia, Japan , Korea, Mexico and the United States. Part of the funding will go towards the promotion of specific products, such as table olives, organic products or products bearing a label certifying the quality of the product (PDO, PGI, TSG). The call for proposals is open to a wide range of organizations, such as trade associations, producer groups and agri-food groups in charge of promotion activities. “Simple” programs may be submitted by one or more organizations from the same Member State. “Multiple” programs may be submitted by at least two organizations from at least two Member States or one or more European organizations. The ensuing campaigns generally take place over three years. Proposals must be submitted by 16 April 2019 via the dedicated portal. CHAFEA, the EU executive agency for consumers, health, agriculture and food, is organizing an information day in Brussels on 7 February, open to all potential beneficiaries to help them better prepare their proposals. The Commission will evaluate the proposals and announce the beneficiaries in the autumn. More information is available online.
