July infringement package: Commission acts for full, proper and timely implementation of European law for the benefit of citizens and businesses

To help citizens and businesses benefit fully from the internal market, the European Commission continuously engages with and, if necessary, initiates infringement procedures against Member States which do not respect European law. As part of its monthly package of infringement decisions, today the European Commission decided to refer two Member States to the Court of Justice of the European Union: Spain (in the area of Environment) and Ireland (in the area of Taxation and Customs Union). In addition, the Commission is sending 15 reasoned opinions to a total of 13 Member States: Austria, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Romania, as well as 8 letters of formal notice (Ireland, Poland, Czech Republic, Spain, Germany and France). A summary of the other key decisions as well as the contact details of relevant Spokespersons can be found in the Fact Sheet (MEMO/15/5356) and in the relevant press releases (IP/15/5354 and IP/15/5355). On the general infringement procedure, see MEMO/12/12.
