Unlocking Funding for Europe’s Growth – European Commission consults on Capital Markets Union
The European Commission today launched its landmark project to unlock funding for Europe’s businesses and to boost growth in the EU’s 28 Member States with the creation of a true single market for capital. The Capital Markets Union aims to break down the barriers that are blocking cross-border investments in the EU and preventing businesses from getting access to finance. Following the public consultation, the Commission will adopt an Action Plan this summer setting out its roadmap and timeline for putting in place the building blocks of a Capital Markets Union by 2019. A press release and a fact sheet are also available. The press conference by Commissioner Hill today at 12:00 CET will be live broadcast by EBS.
European Commission lays the foundation for a fairer and more transparent approach to taxation in EU
The European Commission today launched its work on its ambitious agenda to combat tax avoidance and aggressive tax planning. A first orientation debate on possible key actions to ensure a fairer and more transparent approach to taxation in the EU ranked high on today’s College agenda. President Jean-Claude Juncker has made the fight against tax evasion and avoidance a top political priority of this Commission. The Commission is rapidly making good on the pledges it made in its Work Programme last December: it will propose legislation next month to extend the automatic exchange of information on tax rulings. This March proposal will be accompanied by a wider set of measures to increase tax transparency. But next month’s Tax Transparency package is just the beginning, with more work to come in this area during 2015. A press release outlining the first steps of the agenda implementation is available online. The press-conference by Vice-President Dombrovskis today at 12:30 CET, to present the main outcome of the orientation debate, will be live broadcast by EBS
