Commissioner Hogan addresses the Agricultural Outlook Conference in Virginia, US, with US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, 19 February
While visiting the US for bilateral meetings with US officials, Commissioner Hogan will address the Agricultural Outlook Conference in Virginia. He will at that occasion also participate in a roundtable discussion with US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. Later today, Commissioner Hogan will have a bilateral meeting with US Trade Representative Ambassador Michael Froman. The Agricultural Outlook Conference is a two-day annual policy conference organised by the United States Department of Agriculture. It brings together 1 500-2 000 professionals from the sector. This year’s edition, “Smart Agriculture in the 21st century”, focuses on innovation.
EU gives humanitarian aid to victims of food insecurity in Central America
The European Commission is providing €4 million in humanitarian aid to assist the people affected by food insecurity in Central America. More than 2.5 million people in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua are lacking reliable access to enough affordable and nutritious food due to erratic rain, drought and floods. EU aid will provide the affected populations with appropriate food assistance: cash, vouchers, material aid. In case of significant increase in severe acute malnutrition among children under five years of age, nutrition assistance will also be provided, including therapeutic supplementary feeding.
