European Commission publishes report on state of play of TTIP negotiations
The Commission has today published a report presenting a detailed break-down of progress made in the ongoing negotiation of a trade agreement between the EU and the United States, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). The report shows that negotiators are making good progress in many TTIP chapters, while significant strides remain to be made in some areas in order to have the main elements of a deal finished this year. On this occasion, EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström said: “The report summarises our negotiations, conducted by the European Commission as a team, following the political guidelines of President Juncker and with the involvement of several Commission colleagues, such as Agriculture and Rural Development Commissioner Phil Hogan and others. It aims to be a broad, yet straightforward and concise document, a result of our continued promise to keep these negotiations the most transparent trade talks ever conducted by the EU.” The negotiations are currently in their 13th round, which is taking place in in New York this week. Also this week, during the Hannover industrial fair, Commissioner Cecilia Malmström met the US Trade Representative Michael Froman to take stock of the progress made so far in the negotiations. More information about the report can be found in this blog post published by Commissioner Malmström today.
