·         Compared to previous week EU average butter, milk powders and cheddar prices relatively stable, decrease in emmental (-2.5%) and increase wheypowder (+1.2%) prices

·         Slight decrease in IT spot milk price (41.0 c/kg) last week

·         Feed costs 3.0% lower and energy costs 1.5% higher in week 11 compared to the previous 4 weeks’ average

·         Divergent trends in world quotations of dairy products expressed in US$ last fortnight

·         SMP prices in the EU and in the US are at the same level (20% below Oceania price)

·         General increase of dairy commodity prices in Oceania: butter +5.9%, WMP +5.8%, cheddar +6.8%

·         Decrease in EU butter (-2.4%), US cheddar (-4.3%) and US SMP (-2.1%) prices

·         WMP prices in the EU and Oceania are now at the same level

·         EU milk collection decreased by 1.5% in January 2019 compared to January 2018, resulting in 196 000 t less milk

·         EU production has declined in January 2019 for SMP (-8.5%), WMP (-6.4%), butter (-1.9%), cheese (-1.0%) and drinking milk (-1.0%)

·         Concentrated milk (+7.8%), fermented milk (+2.3%) and cream (+1.3%) are the only products expanding production in January

·         New Zealand milk production in January (eight months of the 2018/19 season) increased by 7.7% compared to January 2018 (+4.9% for Jun-Jan period)

·         Australia milk production in January (seventh months of the 2018/19 season) decreased by 11.3% compared to January 2018 (-6.0% for Jul-Jan period)

·         The US starts 2019 with 0.9% increase in milk production compared to January 2018

  • EU milk collection decreased by 1.5% in January 2019 compared to January 2018, resulting in 196 000 t less milk
  • 18 Member States have reduced their milk deliveries in January (FR for a volume of 64 000 t, NL for 63 000 and DE for 59 000 t) and in % BG by -12.7%, AT by -7.6% and HR by -6.6%
  • Milk collection has increased by 32 000 t in PL (+3.2%) and 22 000 in the UK (+1.7%) and in % in RO (+6.0%) and EE (+4.9%) in January
  • EU production has declined in January 2019 for SMP (-8.5%), WMP (-6.4%), butter (-1.9%), cheese (-1.0%) and drinking milk (-1.0%)
