The Department of Agriculture has confirmed to IFA hat the closing date for the establishment of green cover / catch crops has been extended from 15 September 2016 to 30 September 2016. IFA had sought this extension in light of this year’s late harvest.
Grain Chairman Liam Dunne welcomed this as a positive move which will ease the pressure on many farmers who are struggling to complete harvest and or clear straw off fields as weather deteriorates.
The extension only applies where the farmer or an advisor on his/her behalf submits a completed application – available here or on the Department of Agriculture Website.
Completed forms must be returned by 16 September 2016. In the absence of the receipt of a completed application form the original planting date for catch crops remains 15 September 2016.
GLAS participants availing of the catch crop action must ensure they continue to comply with the requirements set out in the GLAS specification provided to each GLAS participant which is also available on the Department’s website www.agriculture.gov.ie.
