Find out How to Get the Most Value from Your Forest at IFA Forest Assessor Information Evenings

IFA will hold four information meeting to demonstrate the new Forest Assessor service, which independently analyses forests so that farmers know the value of their forest before going to the market. The meetings will take place in Limerick, Cork, Leitrim and Mayo.

Speaking about the new service, IFA Farm Forestry Chairman, Michael Fleming said, ‘Forest Assessor uses the most up-to-date technology to measure plots within the forest and then produces a report for farmers showing expected harvest volumes. The report provides a detailed breakdown of timber products as well as the potential value of the timber, based on the latest timber market report.’

“Knowing the value of your timber before you harvest gives you more power when negotiating with potential buyers”, said Mr. Fleming. “The more knowledge you have on your forest, the more opportunity there is to capture value and maximise your return while protecting the long-term productivity of the forest”.

IFA, in association with Treemetrics – international leaders in forest measurement, valuation and timber optimisation – offer the new Forest Assessor service to IFA members at a 25% discount. The tree measurement technology can accurately predict the quantities of timber products and their potential value.

Mr. Fleming said ‘’Farmers have invested too much to risk selling their timber without knowing what to expect from the sale of this product. Forest Assessor gives farmers greater control when entering the market and reduces uncertainty as to whether you are getting a fair price for your timber.”

A local farmer who has used Forest Assessor will explain the benefits of the service to the meeting, which will also be addressed by IFA and Treemetrics representatives.
