Focus of Deer Forum Will Have to Be on Keeping Deer Numbers at Sustainable Levels

IFA Animal Health Chairman Bert Stewart has welcomed the establishment of the national Deer management forum, which he said was long overdue.

He said the primary objective of the group must be the reduction of deer numbers to levels that are sustainable within their natural environment.

“Farmers are not prepared to accept the ever increasing encroachment of deer onto their land and the associated costs of disease breakdowns and crop damage. The forum must ensure these issues are dealt with as a matter of urgency.”
