GOVERNMENT SHOULD SEIZE OPPORTUNITIES FOR IRISH AGRICULTURE ARISING FROM CHINESE VISIT

IFA President Eddie Downey has warmly welcomed the visit by the Chinese delegation to Ireland, led by their premier Li Keqiang. He said the Premier’s visit to the Garvey dairy and beef farm in Headford, Co Galway showed first-hand the quality and sustainability of Ireland’s agriculture sector.

Eddie Downey said the Irish Government should seize this opportunity to fast-track access for Irish beef following the decision by the Chinese authorities earlier this year to lift the ban in place on European beef.

He said the week-end visit should also be used as a chance to increase the penetration of our dairy, pigmeat, lamb and other agricultural exports into the Chinese market.
