Lamb Prices Remain Solid – Factories Paying €5.00/kg

IFA National Sheep Chairman John Lynskey said lamb prices remain very solid this week with factories paying €5.00/kg.

He said demand is very strong and factories are trying to pin down supplies now for the week between Christmas and the New Year. He said specialist feeders are looking for more than 5.00/kg and expect prices to kick on into the new Year as expenses continue to rise at this time of year.

John Lynskey said with the total kill for 2017 ending the year up 255,000 head, there should be no carry over of lambs into 2018. He said this should leave supplies of hogget’s in 2018 a lot tighter than last year and points towards a much more positive trade into the Spring.
