Lamb Trade Steady

IFA National Sheep Chairman John Lynskey said the sheep trade remains steady with factories paying €5.10/kg and top prices of €5.20/kg paid in places. He said the ewe trade has also picked up with prices varying from €2.80 to €3.00/kg.

John Lynskey said carcase weights are negotiable in places with most plants trying to impose a cut off of 23kgs. He said feeders should select lambs carefully and negotiate specifically on any heavier lambs.

The IFA Sheep Chairman said the price and weight situation still has a long way to go as this time last year feeders were getting €5.70/kg for quality lambs.
