Minister Has to Take Farmer Concerns About Beef Genomics Scheme on Board

IFA President Eddie Downey said by reconfirming the six-year rule and blaming Brussels, the Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney has failed to address farmer concerns and frustrations on the Beef Genomics Scheme.

He said Minister Coveney needs to take on board farmers concerns and show the necessary flexibility to ensure the scheme works for suckler farmers.

On the replacement strategy, Eddie Downey said there is a very clear view among farmers that Minister Coveney and the Department has set the bar too high and there needs to be some level of adjustment on this and other aspects of the scheme.
