MINISTER SMITH MUST USE FULL REPS BUDGET IN 2010

Rural Development

IFA Rural Development Chairman Tom Turley has urged the Minister for Agriculture Brendan Smith to fully utilise the total 2010 allocation for REPS this year  to avoid the carryover of payments on next year’s budget estimate.

Mr. Turley said that REPS 4 payments must be made this year. With 11,000 REPS farmers having already received their first 75% payment, this must now be followed by the remaining farmers receiving payment before year end.

Continuing, Mr. Turley said that all remaining REPS 4 cases, outstanding REPS 3 cases and all 9,000 AEOS farmers must secure their payment without any further delay. REPS payments must not be held up as a result of the delay in map digitising for Single Farm Payment.

Mr Turley said “The Budget decision to reopen AEOS in 2011 must now be followed through with the scheme being made available to farmers early in the New Year.”
