Lamb Price Hits €5.00/kg – IFA

Sheep Welfare Scheme

IFA National sheep Committee Chairman James Murphy said lambs are very scarce and factories are having to pay €5.00/kg to get stock.

James Murphy said the marts are also very strong with top prices of up to €65 over the weight being paid. He said this is equivalent to a factory price of €5.00/kg.

The IFA sheep farmers’ leader said with the Muslim festival on November 7th there is very active buying at the factories, the marts and at wholesale level for the domestic market.

James Murphy said sheep farmers should insist on the full value for their lambs and be careful on carcase weights and any other deductions. He said farmers should be very clear on the terms of trade before sale.
