Septic Tank Check-list Provides Necessary Clarity – IFA

IFA National Environment and Rural Affairs Chairman Harold Kingston has described the publication today (1st Mar) of the requirements on homeowners that have septic tank systems as “a necessary clarification that should help avoid further confusion.”

He said, “Rural dwellers were extremely concerned about the proposed inspection regime. IFA welcomes the clarity that the inspections will be visual and non-invasive. It would be nonsensical for local authority inspectors to start lifting man-hole covers and testing percolation beds, where no signs of problems exist.”

Harold Kingston added, “IFA will engage with Minister Hogan during the consultation period and will seek the introduction of further practical measures, including financial support for homeowners that are required to upgrade their septic tank system after an inspection.”
