MAJOR DIPLOMATIC PUSH NEEDED TO OPEN US MARKET TO IRISH BEEF – IFACattle
The IFA President John Bryan said the process to re-open the US market to Irish beef needs a major diplomatic and political push at national and EU level.
John Bryan will travel to Strasbourg on Tuesday, where he will hold meetings with senior Commission officials and members of the European Parliament.
As part of a resolution to the US hormone dispute, the EU Commission have granted the US access for up to 40,000 tonnes of hormone-free beef to Europe.
Irish beef could gain a foothold in the largest beef market in the world that imports 1 million tonnes a year. “There are real opportunities for Irish beef in the United States, based on its high quality and natural grass-based production.”
