ABSENCE OF AGRICULTURE FROM STIMULUS PACKAGE A MISTAKE – IFAUncategorized
IFA President John Bryan has welcomed the stimulus package announced by the Government. However he said the package should have incorporated a stimulus for agriculture.
He said, “There is a contradiction when the Government is able to find €2bn for various projects, yet funding for farm schemes continues to be severely cut. Minister Simon Coveney’s delay and foot-dragging on a meaningful AEOS scheme is in stark contrast to his repeated endorsement of the targets in <i>Food Harvest 2020. </i>If there is no extra production at farm level, the increase in food exports will not happen.”
“The best way to get a return for the Government in terms of generating activity in the rural economy is through investment in farming, and especially by supporting vital farm schemes
