IFA National Hill Farming Committee Chairman Flor McCarthy led a delegation to meet Department of Agriculture officials today to break the logjam that has developed where a substantial number of GLAS commonage farmers still remain to be paid their final 15% instalment for 2017.
Sheep farmers reacted angrily and pushed back hard on the attempts by the factories to cut lamb prices over the weekend, IFA National Sheep Chairman Sean Dennehy has said. He said agents were on the receiving end of farmer anger when plants tried to cut the price by another 30c on last week’s price.

IFA President Joe Healy has impressed on Minister for Rural and Community Affairs Michael Ring the need to increase the number of walks covered by the Walks Scheme from 40 to 80, and to increase the funding from €2m to €4m.

IFA Hill Farming Committee Chairman Flor McCarthy has called on the Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed to lift the requirement that final commonage plans must be in place before the final 15% GLAS 2017 payment is made.
