PIG PRICE REPORT – EU PRICES INCREASE THREE WEEKS IN A ROW

Pigs

IFA National Pigs Committee Chairman Pat O’Flaherty has said the EU pig price increase for 3 weeks in a row is a reflection of how supplies have reduced.

In the German market there is a brisk demand for processing products as well as fresh meat with resulting increases paid (+3/kg). Retailers are still telling IFA that they are unable to source quantities of Irish backs to fill their orders, saying meat is not available and they are not actually reaching price negotiations at all. According to AHDB, the UK pork market is being targeted for promotion and their price differential is once again “too high” despite increasing EU prices; Irish pork needs the same treatment, if you can get it, that is?
