Save €5,000 on Your Farm Costs – Free Smart Farming Seminar

Smart Farming, the voluntary resource efficiency programme led by IFA in conjunction with the Environment Protection Agency, will host an important seminar focusing on ways to reduce farm bills and enhance the rural environment.

The Department of Agriculture Knowledge Transfer approved event is free to attend and takes place on Tuesday, April 10th in Portlaoise.

Speakers from Teagasc, UCD and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland will highlight ways to protect the rural environment, while reducing fertiliser, feed and energy costs.

Clodagh Cavanagh, CEO of Abbey Machinery will talk about how good resource management in her business is an important element to their success.

Liam Sheedy, successful former Tipperary Hurling Manager will talk about the importance of farmers minding the most important resource on their farms – themselves.

IFA President Joe Healy will open the seminar, highlighting farmers’ commitment to enhancing the rural environment while improving farm returns. He will outline some of the sustainability challenges that lie ahead and will set out the significant agri-environment contribution made by farmers, with over 130,000 carbon assessments completed as part of Bord Bia’s Origin Green and over 40% of all farmers now participating in the GLAS programme, which is focused on improving water, climate, biodiversity and air quality.

Farmers who participated in the 2017 Smart Farming programme will talk about how ways were found to reduce their farm bills by over €5,000 and reduce their climate impact by over 10%.
