IFA Aquaculture is involved with the EU project “Aquasmart” which is a consortium of industry, academic and private sector technology companies involved in creating the next step in finfish farm data tools.

The aim of the project is simply to get more from the data we already input as part of our operational work on the farm and to learn what to add, how to interrogate and how to interpret the outputs of this data to solve problems and save money.

The two year project involves cutting edge “data mining” research into existing farm data on a  number of different anonymous farms with the aim of customising a new program which gets more out of the output than simply a record of

The ability to benchmark performance, discuss issues with feed or veterinarian service providers, or discuss issues with providers and customers in more detail and with 100%confidence is of huge benefit to our members. Cost savings can be made by identifying problems accurately or highlighting unnecessary costs through analysis of data on the fish and their environment, feed, origin, performance, etc.

The project is now halfway through its life and IFA Aquaculture is one of the external evaluators testing and challenging the software with the help of our members.

A free trial data tool for fish farmers is available right now to download and trial using your existing data (Aquasmart and Aquatracker supports most other data input systems used on Irish and EU farms. More helpis available from the project partners.

Training will be made available by the  project partners to any IFA Aquaculture member who wants to get more involved.
