IFA National Livestock Chairman Angus Woods has acknowledged the comments by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar that Ireland will block a Mercosur deal because of the burning of the Amazon rainforests, but he criticised the silence of the EU Commission.

Following an IFA lobby day of TDs & Senators on the sell-out EU Mercosur trade deal, and last night’s debate in the Dáil, IFA President Joe Healy said Fianna Fail has confirmed that they will vote against the Government on a Sinn Fein motion re the Mercosur deal due to be voted on tomorrow.

IFA President Joe Healy will lead IFA National Officers and members of the IFA Livestock Committee in a protest at the EU Commission offices in Dublin at 8am tomorrow morning over the double standards of the Commission in their reckless pursuit of a ‘Sell Out’ trade deal with the South American group of Mercosur countries.

Speaking from Brussels, IFA President Joe Healy accused the seven Prime Ministers who signed a letter to Jean Claude Juncker backing a trade deal with South American countries of making a mockery of European farmers and the world class standards they operate to.
