Spike in Potato Sales

With the approach of Easter and the continuation of the cold weather, we have seen a spike in potato sales this week.

Many growers have unloaded ambient stock over the past week as they clear the decks in readiness for the planting season ahead.

Regarding planting progress, there has been little change in the past week. In contrast to the norm, tillage farmers in the north-west have undertaken some land work as precipitation volumes in this area have been much less than the rest of the country.

Growers of early potatoes need to reconsider their planting plans due to the delay in sowings. The market window for early potatoes has now narrowed and crops planted in the coming weeks will arrive together on the market and, will also now clash with stored and new main crop varieties.
