IFA President Eddie Downey has said that following the EU Council of Agriculture Ministers’ decision to allow an advance payment of 70% of the Basic Payment and Greening on 16th October next, it is now up to the Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney to ensure that this is delivered in full to farmers.
IFA President Eddie Downey and Dairy Committee Chairman Sean O’Leary have this week written to the Chairmen of all dairy co-ops asking them to undertake a root-and-branch review of their business processes to identify savings and progress further cooperation and consolidation to drive efficiencies and help ensure farmers get the best possible milk price.

IFA President Eddie Downey and National Dairy Chairman Sean O’Leary were in Brussels this week to meet with members of Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan’s cabinet to discuss the IFA’s case for an increase in the dairy intervention safety net level, and the use of superlevy funds to support dairy farmers. They urged Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney to work on achieving support from as many fellow Agriculture Council members as possible ahead of their early September meeting to deliver on both issues.

IFA President Eddie Downey has called on Minister for Agriculture, Simon Coveney to extend the eligible investments provided for under TAMS to include sheep fencing and targeted funding for arable crop farmers.
IFA President Eddie Downey has welcomed the announcement by Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney of the introduction of two additional TAM II schemes under the Rural Development Programme. He said that all remaining schemes should be open by the end of the month. This scheme is vital for the long-term future of agriculture, while boosting economic activity in the rural economy.
