IFA Farm Forestry Chairman, Michael Fleming has said that the High Income Earner Restriction (HIER) is unfairly discriminating against farmers with forestry, who are not high earners but realise the majority of their income from the forest at the end of the long growing cycle.
IFA Farm Forestry Chairman, Michael Fleming has advised farmers to prepare and plan before they start thinning. “There is too much money at stake to not familiarise yourself with what is involved with thinning, it is important to get some understanding of the products that will be harvested and the value of these products.”
The Chairman of the IFA Farm Forestry Committee Michael Fleming said, “IFA and other industry stakeholders have been closely watching the progress of the Forestry Bill at Committee stage. The Bill will be entering Report Stage in the coming weeks and there are still a number of outstanding issues remaining which must be addressed if the industry is to grow and prosper in the years ahead”.
