IFA National Livestock Chairman Henry Burns said the IFA campaign on the Beef Data and Genomics scheme has secured important changes and clarifications to the scheme, which will be very important in encouraging farmers to stay in the scheme.
IFA Livestock Chairman, Henry Burns has called on the Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney to immediately convene a meeting of the Beef Forum to access progress on implementation and to take stock of the recent developments in the beef sector.
IFA President Eddie Downey has called on the Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney to establish the Working Group for the Beef Data and Genomics Programme (BDGP) without delay, to allow it address the technical and operational concerns of farmers with the scheme.
IFA National Livestock Chairman Henry Burns said cattle finishers cannot afford to part with cattle at anything less than last week base prices of €4.20 for steers and €4.30 for heifers. He said the move by some factories to lower quotes is designed to destabilise the trade when numbers are tightening and all they are trying is to get another week’s supply at lower prices.

IFA President Eddie Downey said the Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney must address the significant taxation implications associated with his proposals to transfer entitlements from lessors to lessees in order to protect the SFP payments under the new CAP arrangements, in cases where the entire holding and all entitlements are leased out.
