IFA National Dairy Committee Chairman Sean O’Leary has said that while the 5-year fixed milk price contract announced by Glanbia is another important effort to help farmers manage their milk price risk, giving preferential access based on linkage with feed purchases from Glanbia is objectionable to the majority of farmers who had been in touch with him.
Responding to the Teagasc Situation and Outlook 2017 forecast that dairy farm incomes would increase significantly this year, IFA National Dairy Chairman Sean O’Leary said that while the improvement is welcome, it was also badly needed, coming as it does in the wake of a difficult prolonged period of major cashflow challenges.
As the GDT auction registers another small 0.2% rise today, IFA National Dairy Committee Chairman Sean O’Leary called on co-ops to work harder on passing back as much of the dairy upturn as possible to farmers, who after two years of challenging cash flow still have some way to go to rebalance their farm finances.
As co-ops decide this week on their June milk price, IFA National Dairy Committee Chairman Sean O’Leary said they have some catching up to do to ensure Irish dairy farmers receive the full benefits from improving markets, and competitive milk prices relative to their European counterparts.
