WHAT IFA HAS BEEN DOING IN BRUSSELS

IFA in Brussels

In consideration of the most recent vote in Parliament regarding the reauthorisation of Glyphosate, the Commission have responded with a proposed 5 year reauthorisation which will now be voted on by Member State experts at the Standing Committee for Plant, Animal Food & Feed on Thursday 9th November. This is a compromise on the original Commission proposal of 10 years.
Upcoming Agriculture Ministerial Council Meeting

This meeting takes place on Monday 6th November under the Estonian Presidency where the dual quality of foodstuffs and sustainable soil management in agriculture production will be discussed. The Czech and Slovak delegations will present on outcomes from the Summit on ‘Equal Quality of products for all’ which took place in Bratislava on October 13th. The Estonian Presidency will present on the Conference ‘Soil for Sustainable food Production and ecosystem services’ which took place in Tallinn on 4-6th October.

Mercosur

The next round of EU-Mercosur talks (Monday 6th to Friday 10th November) take place in Brasilia. The EU draft offer for beef totals 70,000t (split between fresh & chilled and frozen), however the Mercosur team are not satisfied with this level and have communicated their expectation of an improved offer. Commissioner Hogan will give an update on the current situation in International Trade during the Agricultural Ministerial Council meeting on Monday.
