Irish pig prices moved lower last week, with a 4c/kg reduction reported across the market however producers continue to cite a range of prices under the Rosderra graded pricing system. As a result of this, average prices more so came back 2c/kg. The national average pig price for pigs slaughtered this week in the Republic of Ireland now stands at €1.80/kg, although it remains the case that some farmers are securing prices above this average in the north too.
The average price for grade E pig carcasses in week 1 was €1.56/kg (excluding VAT), which is back -1.5% on the previous week, however when compared to the previous month prices are -4.1% lower and sit -17.9% below the same period last year.
The weekly throughput reported by the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine for week ending the 28th of December was 15,241. No sows were processed.
Feed markets stabilised after early losses, despite record U.S. corn production weighing on prices. Wheat remains under pressure from high global stocks, though Euronext prices are holding around €190/t due to renewed geopolitical uncertainty.
