Global supply from Jan to Jun have increased by 1% (yoy) mainly driven by increased supply from the US.

Markets have eased in recent times which is typical during the summer months.

In general markets are pretty stable and should return milk prices in the mid to high forties for the rest of the year.

Activity since last National Council

  • SDAS – the revised standard is now being trialled on a number of farms across the country.
  • Tirlan – Members of the Dairy committee met with Tirlan regarding concerns about the AWA which was subsequently withdrawn.
  • Nitrates – The Dairy Chair was part of the IFA delegation that met the Minister regarding appropriate assessments.
  • A submission was made to DAFM on the Herbage evaluation programme review.

Any EU/COPA developments

Over 3000 amendments were submitted to the Commission’s proposals on the Animal Transport Regulations (1/2005). These are currently under review.
