Farmer Army to Mobilise on Mercosur
IFA President Francie Gorman is in Berlin today to meet EU farm leaders from other countries to discuss key topics such as Mercosur and CAP.
“If we are to defeat the Mercosur deal in the EU Parliament, we will need farmers in all 27 Member States to lobby their MEPs,” he said.
“Lobbying works best when it is done by people who can vote for, or against, the person who they are lobbying. That is why we need to mobilise the farmer army across Europe to lobby their MEPs. There are 720 MEPs to be lobbied,” he said.
“Next week we will be in Strasbourg, where the EU Parliament is meeting, to support a protest by our French colleagues from the FNSEA outside the Parliament,” he said.
It’s expected that there will be 1,000 tractors on the streets in Strasbourg to coincide with the plenary meeting of the European Parliament.
