Home consumption and retail sales have strengthened significantly this week as unsettled weather has set in and normal school routines have resumed for families. More new season Rooster is coming onto the market as expected. Some more concerns of cracking issues have been reported. With early plantings this year, many growers are preparing for maincrop harvest.
Across Europe, the processing market is oversupplied which may have a knock-on effect for the fresh market. There will not be enough storage capacity and factories will only take best quality dry potatoes. Unwanted potatoes will have to be cleared for AD production and stockfeed and some crop may not be lifted. Higher production has come at a time of weakening sales/exports of frozen product brought about by USA tariffs and a strengthening Euro in a market where French fry exports from China and India are rapidly gaining advantage.
